Tile adhesive and grout per m² – coverage calculator
How much tile adhesive per m² by trowel notch size, the grout formula for any tile and joint width, and worked examples for 60×60 and 30×60 tiles.
Tile adhesive (cement-based, approx.)
| Trowel notch | Typical tiles | kg per m² |
|---|---|---|
| 6 mm | wall tiles up to 20×20 | 2.5–3 |
| 8 mm | up to 30×30 | 3.5–4 |
| 10 mm | 30×60, 45×45 | 4.5–5 |
| 12 mm | 60×60 and larger | 5–6 |
Large-format tiles (60×60 and up) need back-buttering for full coverage: add about 1–1.5 kg/m². Use a flexible adhesive (e.g. C2TE S1) on heated floors, outdoors and for large formats.
Grout
Grout kg/m² = (tile length + tile width) ÷ (length × width) × joint width × joint depth × 1.6 (all in mm)
| Tile | Joint | Grout |
|---|---|---|
| 60 × 60 cm, 10 mm thick | 3 mm | ≈ 0.16 kg/m² |
| 30 × 60 cm, 9 mm thick | 3 mm | ≈ 0.22 kg/m² |
| 10 × 10 cm, 6 mm thick | 2 mm | ≈ 0.38 kg/m² |
Example: 50 m² of 60×60 tiles
Adhesive 5–7 kg/m² with back-buttering → 250–350 kg (10–14 bags of 25 kg); grout about 8–10 kg; tiles 50 m² + 10 % = 55 m².
